Biography

Dominique Dethier’s musical career has already begun in her early childhood, when she started playing the piano with already four years. Still with the age of five and a half followed the first small concerts, where she could demonstrate her ability. She was taught in this time in the Russian piano school. The unique chance of playing piano to the, in professional circles famous and regarded, Professor Paul Buck was for Dominique`s musical development a drastice experience.
 Prof. Buck took care of her as student - the youngest. Since her 6th year of age until spring 2006 Prof. Paul Buck had been her great instructor and model. He recognized her great musicality and her musical talent.
 Under his leadership she learned to sensitise the music she played and to sense the thoughts and feelings of them who composed it. Dominique won different competitions, including among others several "Jugend-musiziert-competitions". Dominique got ballet training under the Russian system and was an active member of the St. Eberhardt girls' cathedral chantry Stuttgart. She also played for many years the lead violin of the Merz School-orchestra, Stuttgart. After her successfully completed final secondary-school examination and the receipt of the special honouring "Konstantin Merz Award" for lasting, outstanding musical performance at the Merz-Schule Stuttgart, stats-approved private school, Dominique started studying music, major in piano and singing, at the Academy of Music Frankfurt/Main. Since summer 2011 Dominique has studied as Pro-Student, and continues meanwhile her studies as Post-Student of the Canta Belcanto Academy under Univ. Prof. Mario Diaz, Mozarteum Salzburg, in Salzburg. He has formed her voice, in the style of Belcanto, in which Dominique sings successfully today. Also today she still consistently receives  enriching, musical, interpretative and vocal technique impulses. Until summer 2017 Dominique deepens furthermore her vocal studies at the Academy of Music Würzburg. Under the leadership of her teacher, himself with an active concert schedule, bass-baritone Sven Fürst, her voice attained on and on gleaming charisma and expressive power and under him she finished sucessfully her study.
 Additional musical-artistic nuances she has gained in different masterclasses among others with KS Camilla Nylund-Saris, Univ.-Prof. Mario Diaz, Prof. Filippo Morace, Prof. Thomas Heyer, Prof. Caroline Stein, Ingeborg Danz. 
The studies with i.a. actor Thomas L. Dietz as well as with Joachim Goltz have shaped her acting work with profundity. Dominique Dethier works together with well-known leading pianists among others with, Vyara Shuperlieva, Gianluca Ascheri, Olga Wien, Trung Sam, Marco Attura, Alexandra Helldorff, Tomoko Aikawa, Ulrich Pakusch, Tobias Krampen, Rita Kaufmann, Alessandro Misciasci, Helmut Deutsch.

In the sector of Early Music has arisen a fruitful collaboration with the excellent conductor, pianist and specialist in among others Early Music, historical performance practice, organ and harpsichord, Alexandra Helldorff.

Dominique experiences especially pathbreaking impulses, regarding particularly the sophisticated stylistics of Mozart, through the close collaboration with Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Josef Wallnig, conductor, pianist, among others long-time assistant of Karl Böhm at the Salzburger Festspiele, founder and director of the Mozart-opera Institute at the University Mozarteum/Salzburg and exceptional, international renowned expert within the scope of opera interpretation and stylistics of Mozart.

The musical cooperation with internationally renowned conductors, like among others Kai Röhrig, Luciano Di Martino und Nayden Todorov, is for Dominique Dethier and her musical work a further huge inspiration.

Absolutely fulfilling, from a profound depth of soulful sound and really special is for Dominique Dethier the absolutely inspiring and very warm, musical collaboration, in the fach of Lied, with fabulous pianisti and world-famous Lied accompanist Helmut Deutsch. 

For her opera-scenic stage work, Dominique got decisive and forming suggestions during her great collaboration with the famous opera director Prof. Holger Klembt. Under him she was first on stage as "La Grande Pretresse" in Holger Klembt's opera production of Rameau's "Hippolyte et Aricie", followed by the roles of "Giunone" in Claudio Monteverdi's opera "Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria", "Venus" in Jacques Offenbach's opera "Orpheus in the underworld", under musical direction of well-known conductor Ulrich Pakush, „Marcellina“ in a concertante version of W.A. Mozart’s opera „Le Nozze di Figaro“ and "La Baronessa Irene" in Joseph Haydn's opera "La vera costanza", conducted by Gerhard Polifka.     

Dominique Dethier could be also seen in concert on many stages in-country and abroad among others several times at Bavarian Culture and Music Festival „Wasserburger Musiksommer“, where she staged among others the „Three Songs of Ophelia“ by Richard Strauss, in Palermo/Sicily in context of Young Opera Singer Academy „Vocalissima“, where she fascinated the audience at impressive concert stages with expressive concertante performances of Konstanze from Mozart’s „Entführung aus dem Serail“ and Donna Anna from Mozart’s „Don Giovanni“, at concerts in context of Culture and Music Festival „Luft und Raum“ of the famous German Alto Ingeborg Danz, soloistic as well as in ensemble at „International Rossini Belcanto Opera Festival“, on stage of Park Concerts of Brenners Park-Hotel&Spa Baden-Baden, where she staged famous opera arias and ensembles together with her long-time friends and opera singer colleagues in their found together Ensemble "DOSANUGU Salzburg – Young Classic Singers", as well as a regular soloist of traditional Music Project Week "Salisburgensis Opera et Oratorio – Bel Canto Due Mondi", subsequent to the Salzburg Festival, together with Canta International Association, Stadt Salzburg, Camerata Salzburg and Dommusik Salzburg, where she could be seen on stage among others with a concertante version of Lucia's Flute-Aria from the mad scene, as soloist in Rossini's "Petite Messe Solenelle" at Salzburg Cathedral and lately as soloist in the European Premiere of "Vísperas para el Corpus Christi" by Peruvian composer Pedro Xíménez Abrill y Tirados, together with the Chamber Music Ensemble of Camerata Salzburg at Salzburg Cathedral. She sang in Schlosstheater Schönbrunn in Vienna, at Vienna State Opera and in Munich. New York Lyric Opera has already invited Dominique Dethier to sing in Weill Recital Hall in New York's Carnegie Hall, Gilda in Verdi's "Rigoletto.

 

Dominique Dethier works as freelance opera singer and is soloist of Dommusik Salzburg at Salzburg Cathedral, Salzburg/Austria, under direction of director of music János Czifra. Furthermore she cooperates consistently within the context of musical and representional projects, for many years with International University Mozarteum Salzburg. Dominique Dethier is 3rd Laureate of international „Medici International Music Competition 2021 for voice“.

She has now finished the role of Pamina from Mozart's "The Magic Flute", and works on the role of Cleopatra from Haendel's "Giulio Cesare" and Semele from "Semele", Donna Anna from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Don Giovanni", Nannetta from Giuseppe Verdi's "Falstaff" and Frau Fluth from Otto Nicolai's "The Merry wives of Windsor". As for many of her colleagues, also Dominique Dethier's stage performance work was strongly affected by the COVID-19-pandemic worldwide and many concerts couldn't take place as planned, due to the existing measures to avoid a larger spread of Coronavirus.Despite of this situation the artist used energetically the time and worked on varied new roles and Lied programs. Concerts in Austria and Germany are next up on the agenda also this year.

In September 2021 Dominique Dethier could be seen on stage in Opera Gala concerts in Bulgaria together with Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra. She gave concerts with Mozart's
Donna Anna at "Emil Dimitrov Concert Hall" in Pleven, as well as at Bulgaria's biggest concert hall, the legendary "Bulgaria Hall" in Sofia conducted by world-renowned conductor Maestro Nayden Todorov.  

Moreover she works musically together in Vienna with world-renowned and one of the most demanded song accompanist of our times, Helmut Deutsch, and will continue this wonderful cooperation with enthusiam also this year.

Dominique Dethier is initiator and artist of the opera singer-Pop-Up-collective "Canto dell'Opera".

 

Besides her musical work Dominique writes poetry, studied German studies and since October 2010, she is published and recorded with her poem "Mein Weltenlauf verdunkelt sich" in "Jahrbuch Frankfurter Bibliothek für das Neue Gedicht 2011" of the Brentano-Gesellschaft Frankfurt/Main, as well as since 2019 with her poem "Musik – Eine Seele ohne Grenzen" in the anthology "Ausgewählte Werke XXII" of "Bibliothek deutschsprachiger Gedichte". She creates moreover musical-literary stage programs.
